Samsung Wins iF Design Award for C40 Series Printer

0215_Samsung Wins iF Design Award for C40 Series PrinterSamsung Printing’s C40 Series, color laser multifunction printer to be rolled out in June 2017, has already been recognized for its design, scooping the iF Design Award for product design on January 31.

The C40 Series is a range of color multi-function printers that can process up to 40 pages per minute. C40 devices are powered by a 1.5Ghz quad core CPU. They also feature a Smart UX with a 7-inch infrared type (IR) panel, which is faster to respond to the touch, and can also be used in conjunction with styluses and pens, or by users wearing gloves.

The C40 series, with its maximum toner yield of 15,000 pages per cartridge, is targeted at business owners who are looking to minimize their office supplies costs. The C40’s eXtensible Open Architecture(XOA) platform also allows enterprises to customize solutions for their printing operations.

The C40 Series’ Design Identity, the Intensive DI, is an upgraded version of the previous Split DI, which was reflected in the CLP-680 and CLX-6260 printer models. Although many major features of the printer have been updated, Samsung officials state that the overall look and feel of the new devices has been retained to ensure continuity.

The iF Design Award judges recognized Samsung’s Printing Design Group’s decision to separate the printer into two distinct parts. One of these is dedicated to scanning. The other, meanwhile, is dedicated to Smart UX control and paper output. The overall design, say Samsung officials, helps the products retain compactness and solidity.

Samsung has also sought ways to improve the printing experience for its users, creating a tilting 7-inch Smart UX interface panel, allowing customers to adjust the touchscreen’s angle.

The company has increased product development efficiency by implementing design continuity for the C40 and its other printer sets. For instance, the designs for the C4010’s stacker and buttons are the same as those used in the M40 and C26 series. The front cover of C4060 can also be shared with the C26 set.

“We have received 20 iF Design Awards in the past five years – with recognition for the MultiXpress 4 Series, the CLP-415 and the CLX-4195 A4 printers,” said Seungwook Jeong, Principal Designer at Samsung’s Printing Design Group. “We are once again honored to be recognized for our efforts to implement innovative design for the C40.”

Jeong added, “Samsung prioritizes serviceability for its printer and copier users, while concentrating on ways to create efficiency in the office environment. That encompasses not only software and hardware, but also design.”

The iF Design Award is an international design competition hosted by the International Forum Design in Germany. It is one of the world’s three major design awards, along with the Red Dot Design Award and the IDEA Award.
